  • Agora--in ancient Greece a public open space used for assemblies and markets
  • Arete--a sharp mountain ridge
  • Polis--a city state in ancient Greece, especially as considered in its ideal form for philosophical purposes
  • The Year 508 BC--three-year conflict then Klisthenis came into power
  • Socrates--ancient Athenian philosopher; teacher of Plato and Xenophon
  • The death of Socrates--The trial and execution of Socrates took place in 399 BC. Socrates was tried on two charges: corrupting the youth and impiety (in Greek, asebeia)
  • The Socratic method--Socratic method named after the classical Greek philosopher Socrates, is a form of inquiry and discussion between individuals, based on asking and answering questions to stimulate critical thinking and to illuminate ideas.
